Things To Do While In Tioman Island

1. Marine Park. The Marine Park is located at Tanjung Mesoh near Tekek village. It is the third largest marine park in Malaysia.

2. Snorkeling. The waters around Tioman, particularly around Kampung Salang are absolutely crystal clear. Snorkeling equipment can be rented in many places for RM10-15 per day. Many tours will also take you out on island tours and include snorkeling for an extra RM10. Among the best islands for snorkeling are Tulai Island, Mensirip Island, Harimau Island and Gual Island. Other spot is at Sibu Kukus Island near the Sibu Island. However, if you want to go to Sibu Kukus Island, you need to stay at Sibu Island as it is quite far to travel to Sibu Kukus from Tioman.

3. Island hopping. They will bring you to the nearby Islands like Rawa Island, Gual Island, Mensirip Island, Harimau Island, Tengah Island and Besar Island  for swimming and snorkeling. This is a one day trip.

4. Scuba diving. The waters around Coral Island are superb for diving. You can also get certified in a number of diving courses. These take 4 days and generally cost about RM750. The first two days are either around the beach or in pools ultimately leading to an partner dive around Coral Island. These certification courses will allow you to dive up to 80 metres with a partner. B & J is good company offering branches in both Salang and ABC. Don't worry the rates are reasonable. Try it at Salang village as there is 2 best dive centers in the Island. Well, if you are a diver, u might want to try night dive and maybe go to Aur Island to take a look at beautiful marine life.

5. Jungle trekking.  If you are staying in ABC in particular, there is a very nice 2 hour trek (each way) from the southern part of Tekek (25 minute walk from ABC) to Kampung Juara in the east. The path is quite well maintained and even paved a good part of the way. This takes you through the middle of the island to Juara which is a nice village on the east side with a great beach. The trek is not overly demanding. To get back, you can either retrack your steps or take a speed boat for RM40. Seabuses also service Juara but are not so frequent as one would like. Be prepared to explore the natural rainforest from Tekek village to Juara village. After 45 minutes trekking from Tekek you dip into the beautiful waterfall and spend your time for birds watching, swimming, etc.

6. Fishing. This is my favorite activity. Fishing is a bit trick. In my last trip to the Rawa Island, I came back empty handed. The boatman told me that my timing was not right. According to him, it is tough to get fish when "full moon". Anyway, the lucky ones caught Black Marlin and other big fish.

7. Try Local seafood. It is very fresh as the supply of the seafood comes from the local fishermen. Its a daily catch. You need to advice the Chef not to make it too spicy coz you can't handle it.

8. Sea sport. Plenty of activities to do like windsurfing, canoeing and jet skiing.

9. Sunset watch

10.Monkey bay. A very beautiful beach located near Salang (Abt 5 min boat ride)
